Our Mission

Nordic cooperative and public housing association (NBO) was founded in 1950. The purpose is to promote contact between affiliated organizations for the exchange of knowledge and the coordination of common interests. NBO members together represent nearly 2.5 million homes.

NBO is constituted by one or more member organizations in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. The members are represented by one or two people in the board. The Board, the chairman and the secretariat is elected at the biannual NBO Conference. The board meets up three times annually.

Every second year NBO organizes a bi-annual conference for member organizations and their respective members. The conference is a forum for sharing knowledge, networking and setting joint agendas. It is also time and place for honouring some of the bright and intelligent housing development, that takes place in our sector with the traditional award Bostadsprisen.

The theme of the price is centered around the NBO vision of a Nordic region with economically, ecologically and socially sustainable housing for all, but has varied through the years - accessibility and the environment in 2006, energy in 2008 an urban renewal in 2010. In 2012, 2014 and 2016, the prize was awarded to a newly built residential building, that succeded in combining environmental aspects and economically sound solutions with quality architecture and accommodation. And last in 2018 the award was given to a project that succeded in enriching a worn down residential area through a holistic social approach and ambitious climate goals.

The next bi-annual conference will take place in Oslo 2022
